Aadhaar-PAN linking: Only two days left, heres how you can do it

New Delhi : The taxpayers are running off to link their Aadhaar card to PAN card to file income tax return as only two days are left for it. The period to link your Aadhaar card to PAN ends on Friday. From Saturday onward, it will become compulsory to quote 12-digit biometric Aadhaar or the enrolment ID at the time of application of permanent account number (PAN).

On Wednesday, the government made it mandatory to link existing Aadhaar numbers with PAN of taxpayers with effect from July 1. According to the government, linking Aadhaar with PAN would help in check instances of multiple PANs and would also help in nabbing tax evaders. The revenue department said, "Every person who has been allotted PAN as on July 1, 2017, and who in accordance with the provisions of sub-section (2) of section 139AA is required to intimate his Aadhaar number, shall intimate his Aadhaar number to the principal director general of income tax (systems) or DGIT (Systems)."

Visit the Income tax e-Filing portal. You will see the linking of Aadhaar-PAN on the top of the home page of the portal.

♦ Log in to your account in the Income tax e-Filing portal. If you haven't registered yet, register yourself first by entering your basic registration details such as PAN, name, and date of birth.

♦ Enter your user ID and password to access your profile.

♦ Go to the "Profile Settings" tab, and click on "Link Aadhaar" in the drop down menu. A form will be displayed.

♦ Enter the details as per your PAN records. Next, your name and Aadhaar number should be entered as per your Aadhaar details. Enter the text in the Capcha Code.

♦ A success message will be displayed confirming the linking of your Aadhaar to PAN.

Once it is done, remember that e-verify the IT return using Aadhaar if you have registered your mobile number with Aadhaar. If you have linked your Aadhaar card with PAN, you will no longer have to submit your Income Tax acknowledgment. According to the reports, as many as 2.07 crore taxpayers have already linked their Aadhaar with PAN. (India.com)
