Aadhar card necessary for passport and provident fund, link your PAN card with UID

New Delhi : The Supreme Court recently refused to pass an interim order to stop Centre from making Aadhar compulsory for availing social sector schemes. Earlier, the court has allowed the government to make linking PAN card with UID mandatory. This clearly means that you need to link your PAN card with Aadhar card. The government on Wednesday issued a notice to this effect: it has made Aadhar-PAN linking mandatory. You have until 1 July to link your PAN card with your Aadhar number. However, if you don't have an Aadhar card, your PAN would not be suspended.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Ministry has issued a notification that to apply for a passport, a person needs an Aadhar card. UID number would be required for a passport from July 1. The Employee Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has also decided 30 June as the deadline for linking provident fund account with Aadhar card. After doing that, only 10 days instead of 20 will be required to take your money out from your PF account. Even Public Distribution System needs Aadhar card. According to reports, Aadhar card would be required to get the ration. Also, Aadhar card will be needed to get a scholarship. To get a discount on a train journey, Aadhar will be required.

Linking Aadhar Card with PAN card has become mandatory in case a person has an Aadhar number. Else, the person will not be able to file his Income Tax returns and PAN card can also stand cancelled. If one feels that it would be a difficult task, he/she is in for a surprise cause Aadhar-PAN linking is extremely simple. It might not even take you a minute to link the two documents.

Supreme Court on June 9 had made mandatory the linking of the Aadhar card and PAN card. The court had said that Parliament was within its right to frame such a law and all those people who already have the number must link their PAN cards with Aadhar card. Failing to do it before July 1, 2017, PAN cards can be suspended. The court, however, had said those who don't have a PAN number will not face any action and can get file their income tax returns.
