New Delhi : United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley met Nobel Laureate Mr. Kailash Satyarthi at Mukti Ashram (the short term rehabilitation home for rescued children, established in 1991 by Mr. Kailash Satyarthi), New Delhi on 27th June to discuss children's rights, human rights and security matters.
Mr. Satyarthi urged that an international response mechanism should be formed under the aegis of the United Nations to address this grave situation.Ms. Haley said, "It has been an honour and privilege to be here at Mukti Ashram set up by Mr. Satyarthi, and run by Bachpan Bachao Andolan. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that every child is safe and afforded every opportunity to have a full life. I look forward to sharing our commitment to end child trafficking.
Ms. Haley and Mr. Satyarthi discussed international problems pertaining to children's safety and rights. Ms. Haley interacted at length with the children who had been rescued from various factories by Mr. Satyarthi's team. Mr. Satyarthi added, "India and the US are two of the largest democracies in the world and should take collective responsibility for the protection of children."
Nikki Haley, is on a three-day visit to India to discuss strategic ties and global developments.
