Srinagar : Three terrorists were gunned down on Thursday in Pulwama district of south Kashmir. According to latest information, the slain terrorists belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba. The encounter between the terrorists and the security forces lasted for over six hours.
As per PTI, the encounter started on Wednesday evening in Kakapora area of Pulwama following an intelligence input that three local boys were holed up in a house located in a densely populated locality. The slain terrorists have been identified as Majid Mir, Shariq Ahmad and Irshad Ahmad and three AK 47 rifles and ammunition have been recovered from the spot, reports ANI.
If reports are to be believed, this is the first successful counter-insurgency operation in Pulwama area. The region is believed to have large presence of local terrorists aided with a strong-network of over ground workers, police officials informed PTI.

According to security officials, as soon as the news of encounter spread, all of a sudden fierce stone pelting by locals targeted security forces to help the trapped terrorists. An officer of 50 Rashtriya Rifles sustained injuries in the encounter.
The police officials also added that the encounter in Pulwama is a big blow to LeT terror outfit as it had recently lost its commander Junaid Mattoo who was killed in another encounter at Arwin village in Anantnag district of South Kashmir on June 17.
In last three days, this is the second successful operation against the terror outfit. Earlier on Wednesday, two terrorists were killed in an encounter in Sopore township of Baramulla district in north Kashmir.
