New Delhi: "It was an honour to serve the congress", Rahul Gandhi said. To find congress a successor, congress president Rahul Gandhi had quit the leadership. The critical reason for the future growth of the party is 'Accountability' and that is the reason of his resignation as Congress president, he said in the letter he tweeted.

Rahul Gandhi took over as party chief from his mother Sonia Gandhi in 2017, quit leadership on 25 May, after the congress ended up with 52 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats, grinded once again by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi- led BJP.

According to party sources, a new Congress president will be choosen within a week. Rahul Gandhi said in his letter that his fight was never been a simple battle for political power. I have not hatred or anger towards BJP, added Rahul.

After his resignation, sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra came up with a tweet that "Few Have The Courage" and "Deepest respect for your decision". Priyanka Gandhi who is two years younger to her brother and a congress leader wrote that only few people have the courage that Rahul Gandhi did.
