Yogendra Yadav writes to the Latur DM on coming across immense irregularities in implementation of drought relief schemes - JalHal Padyatra

The Jal-Hal Padyatra undertaken by Swaraj Abhiyan took off on Saturday from Sonawati village in Latur district. The team led by Yogendra Yadav plans to visit drought hit villages to ensure immediate relief, as well as raise awareness about people's rights and entitlements as per the historic Supreme Court passed recently in Swaraj Abhiyan drought relief case.

During the Padyatra, the Swaraj Abhiyan team visited Sonawati, Gangapur, Katpur, Khandapur and in Latur district, met the villagers and saw immense irregularity in implementation of various government schemes and statutes. It was shocking to see how not a single person in a particular village had got work from April to Dec 2015, whereas the official record reflected work provided. The villagers also told the Swaraj Abhiyan team about serious irregularities in PDS and Mid Day Meal Scheme. The team also found that there were no fodder camps for cattle in the drought hit districts which is badly needed to avert cattle famine.

Swaraj Abhiyan co-founder Yogendra Yadav spoke to the District Magistrate of Latur and expressed shock at the mass irregularities in implementation of drought relief measures. The officer assured that he would immediately form a dedicated team to address the concerns raised by the Swaraj Abhiyan regarding the lackadaisical attitude.

The letters written to the Collector & DM, Latur district apprising him of the ground situation in implementation of National Food Security Act & Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Guarantee Act has been attached herewith. The letter brings the officer's attention to the Hon'ble Supreme Court order in Swaraj Abhiyan drought relief case.

After the district of Latur, the JalHal Padyatra will meet the drought affected villagers in Usmanabad and Beed district of Marathwada before moving for Bundelkhand in the second leg of the Yatra.
