Militants attack CRPF envoy in Srinagar, 1 killed and 2 injured, search operation on

Srinagar : One security official was killed and two CRPF soldiers injured in an attack by militants on a vehicle of the paramilitary force near a prominent school near Pantha chowk bypass in Srinagar on Saturday.

The inspector general of the Central Reserve Police Force, Ravideep Sahi, told ANI, "Firing was on our vehicle. One SI lost his life and two of our personnel are injured. We have cordoned the area."

After the firing, the militants escaped towards the school. The official said that they have cordoned the area. "The operation is in progress," he said.

Militants fired upon CRPF deployment near Pantha chowk bypass around 5:50pm, causing bullet injuries to a jawan and the driver of the vehicle, they said.

CRPF personnel retaliated but there was no immediate report of any casualty on the militant side.

Reinforcements have been rushed to the area and a search operation was launched to track down the militants, the officials said.

The injured CRPF jawan was rushed to a hospital.

No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
